Charity Swim in Open Water

Every now and then we decide to do something a little mad but for a good cause. This one started off with a chat between Tom (managing director) and his daughter (Gemma). After a search on the internet it was discovered that the Great British Swim would be a fun event to train for and raise money for charity. The event was a 1 mile open water swim in Salford’s Key with only 4 months to go. In a few click the tickets were booked and the training would begin.

The training for open water is a bit of a long one. After 4 month the dynamic duo had covered over 35 miles of swimming and a handful of open water session. The pool training was easy with swimming after work every other night but the open water involved a wet suit and very cold water.

By the time of the event the pressure was on to complete the course for pride and for charity. With a water temperature of only 14 degrees and over 2,000 participants it was time to swim. The result was that both made the distance with Gemma beating her dad to the finish line. The reward was a nice medal, a photo and over £2,000 raised for the Wessex Heartbeat.

Well done!

Since that time Tom & Gemma have entered several races at various locations such as London Docklands and Lake Windemere to try to improve on previous performences and plan to do more of the locations in the Britisg Gas Open water swim series.
