Motor Theft Procedures

MOTOR – THEFT FROM VEHICLE
For theft or audio equipment, contact Noyce Insurance and we will provide details of an approved audio supplier who will make arrangements for replacement. A Crime Reference Number from the Police will be required.

MOTOR – THEFT OF VEHICLE
If a vehicle is stolen, the Police must be notified immediately and, again, a Crime Reference Number should be obtained. A theft claim form should be completed and returned to NOYCE Insurance.

There is usually a waiting period of around 6 weeks before a stolen vehicle is declared a total loss, and a settlement offer based upon the pre-theft market value of the vehicle will then be made. We suggest that if the vehicle is not recovered within 14 days the following documents should be forwarded to NOYCE Insurance in order to assist a valuation:

a) Vehicle Registration Document
b) MOT test certificate, if applicable
c) Hire Purchase/Leasing Documents, if applicable
d) Servicing Records and Receipts for any accessories which may enhance the vehicle value
e) Vehicle Keys

If the vehicle is recovered in a damaged condition, please contact NOYCE Insurance Solutions.

MOTOR - WINDSCREEN/GLASS
In the event of such damage, you should refer to your policy documentation which will provide you with details of the glass replacement company used by your insurer. They will arrange replacement of the glass at a time and place to suit you, and will send the invoice direct to your Insurers for settlement. You pay for any excess applicable and the VAT element which you may be able to recover from Customs & Excise.

Motor Accident Claim Procedures

MOTOR ACCIDENT
Under the terms of your policy you must report any accident to your Insurers for their information, even if you do not intend to claim. This is to protect you in the event of unexpected claim being put forward by a third party at a later date.

If you receive any correspondence from a third party in connection with an accident then it should be forwarded to us immediately, unanswered. You must not enter into negotiation with third parties or make any offer or promise of payment.

If your driver receives any correspondence from the Police or a Court Summons then, again, this should be forwarded to us immediately. Your Insurers may wish to defend the Summons on your behalf if they feel it will have an important bearing on the outcome of any claim being made against you.

MOTOR – OWN DAMAGE
You are strongly advised to use the insurers approved repairer scheme in order to minimise down time and inconvenience. Details of participating motor garages are available from NOYCE Insurance. If this is not possible please obtain estimates from at least two different repairers for your insurer's consideration and we will arrange an urgent inspection.

Ministry of Justice (MOJ) reforms

The Ministry of Justice reforms came into operation on 30th April 2010. These new regulations radically alter the way that motor personal injury claims are dealt with and will affect anyone who holds a motor insurance policy, but this information is directed primarily to our clients for whom we have placed multi vehicle or fleet insurance. This is a brief guide to help you understand the implications for you arising from the new regulations, the biggest challenge of which is to ensure that motor claims are reported as quickly as possible so that investigations and liability decisions can be made within the new 15-day period.

The reforms necessitate you reporting an accident quickly, so that insurers can deal with third party claims within the tight new time frame. The claims affected are third party motor personal injury claims specifically those:

  • valued at between £1,000 and £10,000
  • arising out of road traffic accidents in England and Wales only

This may change as the Act develops.

Key changes include:

  • Personal injury claims will be reported through a new web based portal. It is anticipated that claimant representatives will be using the Motor Insurance Database (MID) to identify insurers which clearly means that the MID must be kept up to date.
  • There are three stages in the new process being introduced by the MoJ reforms with strict timescales and interim fixed cost payments at the end of each stage.
  • The decision by insurers on liability must be made within 15 working days of receipt of the claimant's notification so swift notification by policyholders is essential.
  • Fixed costs will be applied at various points in the new process which should represent a saving on traditional costs. However if the case comes out of the new process, costs will increase.
  • Once liability has been agreed, further strict timescales will apply throughout the claim.

In the event of an accident, you need to:

  • ensure your claims reporting procedures are quick and efficient so that claims can be reported within hours of them happening
  • make sure that you gather evidence at the time of the accident and help insurers with liability enquiries
  • ensure that you have adequate processes in place to update the MID (if under your fleet arrangements you are responsible for updating the MID). If a third party solicitor registers a claim with the insurer on MID and this is not correct, the claim will be sent to the wrong insurer

Please call the office for further information

If you would like help on ensuring you have the correct reporting procedures in place your account executive will be delighted to help.
